Bree’s journey reflects the heart of the San Diego Housing Federation’s campaign, With You All the Way, which celebrates the transformative stories of people committed to affordable housing and stronger communities.
Growing up in Escondido with her single mother and younger brother, Bree saw firsthand the struggles many San Diegans face just to make ends meet. Opportunities for assistance were scarce, and though Bree excelled in school, her path was far from easy. Determined to create a better life and driven by a vision to help the very communities where she grew up, Bree forged her way into a career that would not only lift her up but also allow her to lift others.
Bree’s journey led her to the San Diego Housing Federation nearly fifteen years ago through a colleague at Affirmed Housing who shared the Federation’s mission with her. Inspired by the support network and resources the Federation offered, Bree quickly found herself immersed in a community of changemakers. Today, she serves on the board, collaborating with professionals who share her passion for creating a lasting impact. “There are so many facets of this work, and every day I’m learning,” Bree reflects. “The Federation has been a consistent source of knowledge and support throughout my career. SDHF has provided me with invaluable resources and relationships. I’ve learned so much from my peers, and I’m continually inspired by their dedication to making a difference.”
One of the most exciting moments for Bree was collaborating on a ballot measure aimed at transforming the housing landscape in San Diego. The sense of collective action and the opportunity to advocate for meaningful change is what truly excites her. “To be part of something that can potentially change the law and create new housing opportunities is exhilarating,” Bree says. “It’s a culmination of everything I aspire to do: making a positive impact in our community.”
Bree’s involvement with the Federation extends beyond just professional engagement; it is rooted in a commitment to mentorship and community building. She has been instrumental in guiding emerging leaders through the Federation’s Affordable Housing Management Program, using her experience to empower others in their journeys. Bree understands that the fight for affordable housing is not just about individual success; it’s about lifting each other up and fostering a network of support that extends throughout San Diego.
